Thomas Partey, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Emile Smith Rowe all scored inside the opening hour to give Arsenal a 3-0 lead before Jacob Ramsey hit back in the 82nd minute.
The victory sends Arsenal 9th in the Premier League table on the back of their current six-game unbeaten run (4W-2D-0L). Aston Villa, meanwhile, are stuck in 13th after suffering a third straight defeat.
On Monday night they were poor against Crystal Palace, requiring a desperate late equaliser, but here it all seemed to flow as Arteta would have liked, just as it had in their thrilling victory against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this season.
“We attacked them really aggressively, we won every duel,” said Arteta. “We were creative, a threat. I’m proud of the team, they played really well. This is how we have to play. This is when we are good, when we play with real desire, real commitment and have clear ideas of how to attack.”
