Manchester city yesterday completed the signing of England Playmaker, Jack Grealish from Aston villa for £100M which is a new club record and also British transfer record (surpassing the £89M United paid Juventus for Paul Pogba in 2016).

After rejecting a new contract offer from former employers (Aston Villa), the England international has signed a six year deal with the reigning EPL champion keeping him at the Etihad until the summer of 2027 . He’s been handed the No. 10 jersey which was previously worn by Club legend Sergio Aguero and is in contention to make his debut in the Community shield against Leicester City on Saturday.

On Signing the deal he said:

“I am incredibly happy to have joined Manchester City, City are the best team in the country with a manager considered to be the best in the world – it’s a dream come true to be part of this club,” Grealishsaid.

“Over the past 10 seasons, they have won major trophies consistently. Pep coming here has taken them to the next level and the football this team plays is the most exciting in Europe.

“To play for Pep and learn from him is going to be special and it’s something any top footballer would want. “he facilities are amazing, and I honestly can’t wait to get started, meet everyone and get playing.”

City Boss Pep Guardiola has explained why he moved for Grealish and what he’d bring to the team saying:

“When we can spend this amount of money, it is a lot, it is because we sell almost £60 million.

“In the last 13, 14 months, we sell young players from the academy and loan players for £60 million.

“When you sell £60 million, you can afford £100 million, otherwise it is not possible.

“That’s why the difference we spend on him.

“He’s 26, he can play for the next five, six, seven years here and we believe he has incredible talent – not just skills but mentality.

“The second point is when a team in the last four, five years wins a lot, which we cannot deny we have won a lot, we raise our level in Europe and win in last four Premier Leagues, we need new players that are top – not much, few players but ones that raise the level of the players that are here.

“Otherwise after winning a lot of titles, the players it’s difficult to make a step forward. New players coming in are these players.

“I can only say thank you to the club, especially Khaldoon [Al Mubarak], Ferran [Soriano] and Txiki [Begiristain] and all the departments for making this effort.

“He can play upfront, mainly in left the side area – but he can play as a winger, attacking midfielder, striker – many positions.”

The deal seem to favour Aston villa as they’ve quickly acquired Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings in a combined deal worth £85M so as to soften the blow of losing Grealish.

Goodluck to all parties involved in the deal.
