Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has given his view on the club’s summer recruits and also his strong competitor Raphael Varane.
The Swede has been at the club since 2017 and has often gotten an edge when it comes to centre back pairing. He has been paired with Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and Harry Maguire so far in his Manchester United career.
Despite the fact that he has been a regular for the Red Devils (when he is fit), he has also been a weak link for the team’s defense due to the fact that he is not strong enough and often get bullied by the oppositions.
This summer the club has moved swiftly in trying to strengthen the defense and they send a strong statement to their rivals by signing experienced Real Madrid centre back Raphael Varane.
The Frenchman is a massive upgrade on the Swede as he is tall, strong and also has a bag of experience and trophies to show for it and it’s no doubt that when he was paired with club captain Harry Maguire on his premier league debut that the club were able to keep their first premier league clean sheet of the new season.
Lindelof on this summers signings: “I think it’s great. I play in one of the world’s biggest clubs, it’s clear that you want good players. It’ll always be a competitive situation. I only see it as positive that we get good players into the club.”
“It will only develop us, for my own part I see no problem with it. Sometimes I may not play a match, but for me, it does absolutely nothing.”
“I have played a lot the last two years and last year I had big back problems and played with pain.”
It remains to be seen if the Sweden Captain will fight strongly for his place and make it back into the starting lineup on a regular basis or he will settle for a place on the bench as third choice centre back.
