Switzerland midfielder Denis Zakaria’s future looks set to be away from Borussia Mönchengladbach. The midfielder’s out of contract at the end of the season with Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham and Barcelona all interested in signing the defensive midfielder.
Denis Zakaria has now reportedly rejected a new contract in order to secure a move to Barcelona who are looking for a to succeed Sergio Busquet.
The news will come as a blow to Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham given the Premier League trio’s interest in signing him.
Manchester United’s need for a defensive midfielder has been underlined during the opening few games of this season and a name linked to United in the past has been Borussia Moenchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria,
Zakaria made two appearances for Switzerland at Euro 2020 including their quarter-final against Spain.
The holding midfielder was troubled by a knee injury last season and this could result in Monchengladbach accepting a lower transfer fee.
He made 32 appearances for Monchengladbach last season scoring once and he’s scored twice and provided one assist in five games this campaign.
It is not the first time the midfielder has been linked with a move to England, with United and Liverpool interested in him last year.
He was valued at £43m at the time but with his contract running down clubs could be able to sign him for less than half this figure if they move in January.
A fortnight ago Zakaria starred in a 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in which he struck the winner, outplaying Jude Bellingham.
In that game he completed 89 per cent of his passes in his role as a deep lying midfielder in a 3-4-2-1 formation.
Any team he joins as a free agent next year will be getting a good player and might even turn to a world class one.
